Dallas ISD announces free pop-up meal service for children during winter break
Dallas, Texas – The Dallas Independent School District has announced a thoughtful initiative to provide free “pop-up” breakfast and lunch services for all children aged 18 and under during the winter break. This program aims to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals even when schools are closed.
Nutritious Meals During School Break
Understanding the importance of maintaining a healthy diet for children, especially during school holidays, the district’s Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will be distributing meals twice over the winter break. These distributions will occur on December 28 and January 4 at selected campuses across the district.
The meals are designed to offer “an optimal blend of whole grains, lean proteins, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.” Some meals might require cooking, and preparation instructions can be found on the district’s website. This initiative is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to child nutrition and well-being.
Meal Distribution Details
The distribution process is dependent on the weather conditions. On clear days, a delivery truck will be parked at the main entrance of each campus to serve the meals. In case of rain, the meals will be served at the school’s front entrance. However, the service will be canceled if there are snow, sleet, or other dangerous weather conditions.
Breakfast will be available on December 28 and January 4, from 9 AM until 10:30 AM at the following locations:
- Kimball High School, 3606 South Westmoreland Road
- JL Long Middle School, 6116 Reiger Avenue
- Marcus Leadership Academy, 291 Northaven Road
- Pinkston High School, 2815 Bickers Street
- Spruce High School, 9722 Old Seagoville Road
- Tasby Middle School, 7001 Fair Oaks Avenue
Lunch will be served at these locations on the same dates, from 11:30 AM until 1 PM:
- Medrano Middle School, 9815 Brockbank Drive
- Dade Middle School, 2727 Grand Avenue
- Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road
- South Oak Cliff High School, 3601 South Marsalis Avenue
- Roosevelt High School, 525 Bonnieview Road
Meals are available while supplies last or until the end of the specified service window. This initiative is a significant step by the Dallas Independent School District to support the nutritional needs of children during the winter break, ensuring they have access to healthy meals.
