Dallas Latino Cultural Center to showcase El Peso Hero exhibition during the 10th Annual Texas Latino Comic Con
Dallas, Texas – The Latino Cultural Center in Dallas will welcome comic book fans, artists, and families for the return of the 10th Annual Texas Latino Comic Con, featuring a special exhibition celebrating one of the best-known independent Latino comic book characters.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, and is free and open to the public. Organizers say this year’s celebration will spotlight creators and artists while introducing visitors to “El Peso Hero: Guardian of the Borderlands,” a new exhibition honoring the popular comic book series.
Created in 2011, “El Peso Hero” is an independent, creator-owned comic developed by Dallas educator and artist Héctor Rodríguez III. The character was inspired by Rodríguez’s childhood growing up in Eagle Pass, Texas, a border community that helped shape the themes found throughout the series.
Exhibition highlights art and Latino storytelling
The bilingual superhero, who speaks only Spanish, has become a recognizable symbol of resilience, identity, and justice for Latino communities living on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
The series has also gained national recognition after being featured in the Eisner Award-nominated anthology “Latinx Comics Studies: Critical and Creative Crossings,” published by Rutgers University Press.
Rodríguez said bringing the exhibition to Dallas carries special meaning.
“This exhibition is more than a celebration of 15 years — it’s a tribute to the border communities that inspired the character and a statement that our stories deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated,” he said. “I’m honored to bring ‘El Peso Hero’ home to Dallas for this milestone.”
The “Guardian of the Borderlands” exhibition transforms the comic series into an interactive gallery experience designed to immerse visitors in the world of the character.
Guests will have the opportunity to view original artwork, rare comic book covers, and variant pages, while also exploring displays that document the character’s creative development over time. The exhibition will feature character design timelines, film concept art from an upcoming movie currently in development, and interactive installations demonstrating how comic books can be powerful tools for cultural storytelling and Latino empowerment.
Organizers hope the event will not only entertain visitors but also celebrate the creativity and achievements of Latino artists while highlighting stories that reflect the experiences and identities of border communities.
With free admission and a full day dedicated to comics, art, and culture, the Texas Latino Comic Con and the “El Peso Hero: Guardian of the Borderlands” exhibition are expected to draw fans of all ages to the Latino Cultural Center for a unique celebration of Latino creativity and storytelling.
