Dallas man arrested after trying to smuggling firearms
Dallas, Texas – A 26-year-old Dallas resident, Santiago Ramirez, has been charged with serious offenses related to firearms smuggling, following the discovery of nearly 200 guns in a trailer he was pulling.
On October 30, Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry conducted a routine vehicle inspection of Ramirez’s trailer. During the inspection, officers noticed that the sidewall of the trailer appeared to have been tampered with. This observation led to a more thorough search, which uncovered a shocking haul.
Hidden within the walls of the trailer, officers found 187 firearms, each wrapped in cellophane. This significant discovery of concealed weaponry resulted in Ramirez facing multiple charges related to smuggling and firearms trafficking.
Ramirez has been charged with one count each of conspiracy to traffic firearms, trafficking firearms, conspiracy to smuggle goods from the U.S., and smuggling goods from the U.S. These charges reflect the seriousness of the offenses and the potential risk they posed to public safety.
If Ramirez is found guilty, he could face up to 15 years in prison for each of the firearms charges. Additionally, the smuggling goods charge carries a potential 10-year sentence, and the conspiracy to smuggle goods charge could result in 5 years of imprisonment.
