Federal authorities charge Oakland man following violent confrontation at Dallas airport security checkpoint

Dallas, Texas – A violent confrontation at a busy airport has led to serious federal charges after authorities say a man attacked multiple officers while attempting to pass through security without proper identification.

Federal prosecutors announced that Idress Vinay Solomon, 33, of Oakland, California, has been charged with assaulting a federal officer following an incident at Dallas Love Field Airport on March 10, 2026. The case, filed in federal court earlier this week, outlines a chaotic and escalating situation that left one officer seriously injured.

According to officials, Solomon had been ticketed for a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Oakland International Airport. When he arrived at the airport’s security checkpoint, he did not have any form of identification. A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer directed him to a separate lane so that agents could attempt to confirm his identity using the agency’s ConfirmID process.

However, when that process failed, the situation quickly changed. Authorities say Solomon became verbally disruptive and aggressive, drawing attention and prompting further response from security personnel.

“Violent conduct perpetrated against TSA and law enforcement officers will never be tolerated in the Northern District of Texas,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. “We will prosecute such offenses to the fullest extent to seek justice for the victims here and to deter others from resorting to aggressive attacks against officers responsible for ensuring the public’s safety while traveling.”

Escalation Turns Violent at Security Checkpoint

As described in the federal complaint, the confrontation intensified when a TSA officer called for a supervisor due to Solomon’s behavior. At that point, Solomon allegedly punched the officer in the back of the neck, marking the beginning of a series of violent acts.

Officers with the Dallas Police Department, who were already present in the main lobby, quickly responded to assist TSA personnel. What followed was an even more serious attack.

Solomon allegedly punched a Dallas police officer multiple times in the face, causing a severe orbital blowout fracture to the officer’s left eye. The injury was serious enough that the officer required treatment from an ophthalmologist at Parkland Hospital.

Even after that, the violence did not stop. Authorities say Solomon then turned his attention back to TSA personnel, punching a second TSA officer multiple times before additional officers were able to intervene.

Arrest and Continued Resistance

After a struggle, officers were able to bring Solomon under control and place him in handcuffs. However, the complaint states that his behavior remained combative even after being restrained.

As officers attempted to place him into a police vehicle, Solomon allegedly spit saliva onto a Dallas police officer’s arm. Throughout the incident, he reportedly refused to follow lawful commands, continued yelling, and resisted officers’ efforts to secure him.

Despite the intensity of the situation, authorities were ultimately able to take Solomon into custody without further injury to others at the scene.

Federal Charges and Ongoing Case

Solomon is now facing a federal charge of forcibly assaulting a federal officer and inflicting bodily injury, a serious offense that carries significant consequences. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.

He remains in custody as the case moves forward through the court system.

The investigation into the incident was conducted by multiple agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Dallas Police Department. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas are handling the case.

The incident highlights the dangers faced by airport security personnel and law enforcement officers who work to maintain safety in high-traffic public spaces, where even routine encounters can quickly turn into serious and unpredictable situations.
