Dallas Museum of Art adapts to economic challenges with staff layoffs, reduced hours
Dallas, Texas – In response to economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is taking measures to ensure its long-term sustainability. The museum has announced staff layoffs and a reduction in operating hours, effective December 1, 2023.
Starting December 1, the DMA will operate with reduced hours, welcoming visitors from Wednesday through Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. This new schedule aims to optimize operational efficiency while still providing access to art enthusiasts.
To navigate the economic impact of the pandemic, the DMA is implementing staff layoffs. A total of 20 full-time positions will be eliminated, and two full-time positions will transition to part-time roles. These changes represent approximately 8 percent of the museum’s staff.
In a statement, the DMA described these changes as “difficult, but necessary steps” to ensure the institution’s financial stability and sustainability. The museum has been grappling with economic uncertainties since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and these adjustments are seen as crucial for its continued operation.
Despite these changes, the DMA remains committed to its mission of enriching lives through art. The museum expressed confidence that its revised operations would align with attainable revenue goals, allowing it to continue serving as a cultural hub for the community.
The DMA looks forward to welcoming visitors during its adjusted hours, continuing to share the beauty and significance of art with the public.
