AT&T announces customer compensation following widespread network outage
Dallas, Texas – Last week’s widespread AT&T cellphone network outage left thousands of its users across the U.S. without service for several hours. In response to the inconvenience caused, AT&T has announced a compensation plan for those affected. The Dallas-based telecommunications giant revealed on its website that affected customers would receive a $5 credit on their accounts. This gesture of goodwill is expected to appear within two billing cycles, aiming to make amends for the disruption experienced by its customers.
However, it’s important to note that not all AT&T users will be eligible for this credit. Specifically, the $5 compensation does not extend to AT&T Business accounts, prepaid services, or subscribers of Cricket, AT&T’s lower-cost wireless service. For prepaid customers impacted by the outage, the company has promised alternative options, though details on what these might entail remain vague at the moment.
The outage, which began early Thursday and stretched for several hours, significantly inconvenienced users by disrupting their cellular service. AT&T attributed the cause of the outage to an “error in coding,” clarifying that it was not the result of a cyberattack. This clarification aims to reassure customers about the security and reliability of AT&T’s network despite the recent service interruption.
