Dallas ISD’s new center offers resources and opportunities in South Dallas

Dallas, Texas – Dallas ISD recently celebrated a significant milestone with the opening of the Lincoln Resource Center in South Dallas, marking a new era of educational and community support. This initiative represents a commitment to nurturing the potential of students and community members alike.

The Lincoln Resource Center, an extension of the Joseph Rhoads Learning Center, is a renovated space designed to offer a multitude of resources. Justin Henry, the president of Dallas ISD’s Board of Trustees, emphasized the importance of this project: “Our job as adults in society is to provide opportunities for our kids. We have to deliver on our promise.” This statement underscores the district’s dedication to creating environments that foster growth and learning.

One of the primary functions of the center is to assist with resume preparation, catering not only to students but also to members of the community. The facility boasts a range of features, including a computer lab, a podcast studio, a kitchen, and areas for recreational activities like yoga. These amenities aim to provide a holistic approach to learning and personal development.

Brent Alfred, Dallas ISD’s Chief Construction Officer, highlighted the broader impact of the center: “We are not just opening the doors to a building; we are unlocking opportunities for our community.” This vision of opening avenues for community advancement is further realized through the inclusion of a food pantry and a coat closet, catering to those in need.

Pamela Lear, Dallas ISD’s Deputy Superintendent, pointed out that the Lincoln Resource Center is the first among four planned neighborhood-specific resource centers. She emphasized the positive outcomes of providing necessary resources to communities: “Research shows us when children and their community are provided the resources to thrive, they do just that.”

Additionally, the center features a kids’ zone where young children can engage in activities, and parents are also encouraged to participate in arts and crafts projects with them. This space fosters family engagement and early childhood development.

Henry also highlighted the dual achievement of the project: maintaining the early learning center while investing significantly in the campus.

The community is set to celebrate this new addition with a celebration on Saturday, and the doors will officially open to the public on Monday. The Lincoln Resource Center stands as a testament to Dallas ISD’s commitment to enriching the lives of its students and the wider community.
